After nine colorful seasons with the San Diego Chargers, running back LaDainian Tominson was let go by the team. The NFL most valuable player in 2006 had been a potent force for the team especially during his MVP season where he set the NFL season records with 31 touchdowns and 186 points. After his MVP season however, it was a downhill trend for the running-back as his averages dropped from 113.4 in 2006 to only 52.1 in 2009.
In his storied NFL career, Tomlinson ranks eight on the all-time rushing list with 12,490 yards. His 138 career rushing touchdowns rank second, and his 153 total touchdowns rank third. Chargers general manager A.J. Smith expressed sadness over the decision of the team to drop Tomlinson who had been a loyal and efficient member of the team.
